Samsung Galaxy Fold-A Game Changer

Smartphone industry was facing stagnation for a long period as consumers were keeping devices for a longer period, waiting for new innovation to come with better solution. Every smartphone lover seeks for newer device with some innovation. In this phase of stagnation, Samsung blow out with a giant smartphone cum tablet. On February 20, 2019 in San Francisco, California, Doh Koh, President and CEO of IT & Mobile Communications Division of Samsung Electronics, announced Samsung Galaxy Fold. With this announcement Samsung pithed its rival, Apple. This is not Revolution; it is “evolution of next generation.”

Its front screen is 4.6 inch and it opens like a book/tablet with a large screen of 7.3 inch. Its level of innovation and opulence is eye-opening, but its price is eye-watering with price tag of $2,000. It’s been ten years when first Galaxy was launched, Samsung not only changed the shape of phone, but it changed the tomorrow of next generation.

Ben Wood, chief of research at CCS Insight, articulate it as “magnet for gadget lovers” which is “arguably solution looking for a problem.” An associate vice-president at the analysts IDC, Francisco Jeronimo, phrased Galaxy Fold as “one of those announcements that will reshape the future of smartphones”. On 10th anniversary of Samsung’s Galaxy S phone line Galaxy Fold was created to put a mark on bright future of Samsung, as it is main driver of smartphone industry alongside a giant smartphone company, iPhone.

Now Asia is hedging its future by leading smartphone industry. Galaxy Fold is not a hardware innovation of US; it also left Europe behind because this milestone is achieved by a giant company of Eastern Asian country, South Korea. More interestingly, China is also fastening its seatbelt to beat South Korea, as it is moving rapidly in innovation and artificial intelligence.

Big companies like Google, Apple, and Facebook have been known to adopt anti-competitive practices to maintain their dominance on the market. A recent case that came forward is Apple violating its own App Store’s rules for its News+ app. For starters, let’s look at the rules: The developer should clearly state how long will the trial last as well as the price that will be billed.  The users should be notified that the subscription fee will be automatically deducted from the provided account.   The amount that will be deducted should be written clearly. The user should be given links to support and privacy policy. According to Apple’s guidelines, the above rules (which are a fraction of iOS application development rules) make sure the buyer is not misled. Now let’s look at the sign-up page of Apple new+ application. When the “try it free” button is clicked, the user is directly taken to the billing page without getting notified about the subs...
